They will be able to list practical examples of healthy programs and advocacy initiatives healthcare professionals can lead in schools. There will be time for participants to brainstorm on how to connect with local healthcare professionals.

Dr. Kathleen Head is the Associate Medical Director for the MUSC Boeing Center for Children’s Wellness and a Faculty Member in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at MUSC. She has a master’s degree in public health and is additionally board certified in lifestyle medicine. She is a national leader in nutrition and Food is Medicine and works to bring disease preventing policies and practices into the school and clinical spaces.

About The Speaker: Kara Harmon is the Director of Communications for Special Olympics South Carolina. She joined the organization in 2008 as the Director of Program Services, after graduating from the University of South Carolina, where she assisted with the growth of Unified Champion Schools and local area programs as well as took the lead with Health programs. In 2022, Kara transitioned to her current role and is excited to continue sharing the impact of these programs on individuals and their families in a new way.
